Wholesale Price Index of various Tobacco Products from January-2017 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year. Manufacture of Tobacco Product has a weightage of 0.51357 in Wholesale Price Index. Various types of Manufacture of Tobacco Product in Wholesale Price Index are: Cigarette, Biri and Other tobacco products.

Cigarette has a weightage of 0.16619 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Cigarette decreased from 162.3 points in the month of January 2017 to 154.6 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Cigarette during this period; ranging from minimum of 154.6 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 162.9 points in the month of April 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Cigarette during this period was 158.2 points.

Biri has a weightage of 0.11183 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Biri increased from 151.9 points in the month of January 2017 to 159.5 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Biri during this period; ranging from maximum of 159.5 points in the month of May 2017 to minimum of 151.9 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Biri during this period was 154.72 points.

Other tobacco products have a weightage of 0.2356 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Other tobacco products increased from 124.9 points in the month of January 2017 to 126.7 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Other tobacco products during this period; ranging from maximum of 128.6 points in the month of April 2017 to minimum of 124.9 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Other tobacco products during this period was 126.6 points.
