Wholesale Price Index of various Mineral oils of Fuel & Power from January-2017 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year.

Mineral oils have a weightage of 7.94968 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Mineral oils decreased from 81.9 points in the month of January 2017 to 79.3 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 2.6 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. Various types of Mineral oils in Fuel & Power of Wholesale Price Index are: LPG, Petrol, Kerosene, ATF, HSD, Naphtha, Bitumen, Furnace oil, Lube oils and Petroleum Coke. The top 5 types of Mineral oils in terms of weightage in Fuel & Power of Wholesale Price Index are HSD, Petrol, Naphtha, Furnace oil and LPG.

HSD has a weightage of 3.09548 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of HSD decreased from 83.4 points in the month of January 2017 to 81.6 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for HSD during this period; ranging from minimum of 81.6 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 85 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of HSD during this period was 83.4 points. Petrol has a weightage of 1.6047 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Petrol decreased from 82.6 points in the month of January 2017 to 78.1 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Petrol during this period; ranging from minimum of 78.1 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 83.2 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Petrol during this period was 81.02 points.

Naphtha has a weightage of 0.86678 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Naphtha decreased from 75.2 points in the month of January 2017 to 68.3 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Naphtha during this period; ranging from minimum of 68.3 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 79.4 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Naphtha during this period was 73.9 points. Furnace oil has a weightage of 0.66576 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Furnace oil decreased from 71.7 points in the month of January 2017 to 64.2 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Furnace oil during this period; ranging from minimum of 64.2 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 71.7 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Furnace oil during this period was 67.9 points.

LPG has a weightage of 0.64481 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of LPG increased from 75.9 points in the month of January 2017 to 81.3 points in the month of May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for LPG during this period; ranging from minimum of 75.9 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 93.6 points in the month of March 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of LPG during this period was 85.32 points.
