Wholesale Price Index of Categories in Non-Food Articles of Primary Articles from January-2017 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year.

Non-Food Articles have a weightage of 4.11894 in Wholesale Price Index. Categories in Non-Food Articles of Primary Articles of Wholesale Price Index are: a. Fibres, b. Oil Seeds, c. Other Non-Food Articles and d. Floriculture.

Fibres have a weightage of 0.83931 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Fibres decreased from 121.3 points in the month of January 2017 to 119.5 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 1.8 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Fibres during this period; ranging from minimum of 119.5 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 124.9 points in the month of March 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Fibres during this period was 122.1 points.

Oil Seeds have a weightage of 1.1153 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Oil Seeds decreased from 130.1 points in the month of January 2017 to 127.4 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 2.7 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Oil Seeds during this period; ranging from minimum of 127.4 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 130.1 points in the month of January 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Oil Seeds during this period was 129 points.

Other Non-Food Articles have a weightage of 1.96043 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Other Non-Food Articles decreased from 115 points in the month of January 2017 to 112.9 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 2.1 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Other Non-Food Articles during this period; ranging from minimum of 112.9 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 116.5 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Other Non-Food Articles during this period was 114.8 points.

Floriculture have a weightage of 0.2039 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Floriculture decreased from 152.2 points in the month of January 2017 to 145.4 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 6.8 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Floriculture during this period; ranging from minimum of 135.2 points in the month of April 2017 to maximum of 171 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Floriculture during this period was 148.6 points.
