Wholesale Price Index of Categories in Coal of Fuel & Power from January-2017 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year.

Coal has a weightage of 2.13813 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Coal increased from 113.5 points in the month of January 2017 to 116.6 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 3.1 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. Categories in Coal of Fuel & Power of Wholesale Price Index are: a. Coking Coal, b. Non-Coking Coal and c. Lignite.

Coking Coal has a weightage of 0.64703 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Coking Coal increased from 123.1 points in the month of January 2017 to 132.3 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 9.2 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Coking Coal during this period; ranging from minimum of 123.1 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 132.3 points in the month of April and May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Coking Coal during this period was 130 points.

Non-Coking Coal has a weightage of 1.40097 in Wholesale Price Index. There was no change in the Wholesale Price Index of Non-Coking Coal during the period from January 2017 to May 2017. The Wholesale Price Index of Non-Coking Coal during this period was 110.7 points.

Lignite has a weightage of 0.09013 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Lignite increased from 88.8 points in the month of January 2017 to 95 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 6.2 points in Wholesale Price Index during this period. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Lignite during this period; ranging from minimum of 88.8 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 95 points in the month of March and May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Lignite during this period was 91.72 points.
