The traffic handled at Jawahar Lal Nehru port in the Overseas Unloaded category in 2000-01 was 9120 thousand tonnes. The traffic handled in Overseas Loaded category in 2000-01 was 7644 thousand tonnes. The traffic handled in Coastal Unloaded category in 2000-01 was 1491 thousand tonnes. The traffic handled in Coastal Loaded category in 2000-01 was 320 thousand tonnes.
The traffic handled at Jawahar Lal Nehru port in the Overseas Unloaded category in 2001-02 was 11174 thousand tonnes. It recorded 22.52% growth over the previous year. The traffic handled in Overseas Loaded category in 2001-02 was 9168 thousand tonnes. It recorded 19.94% growth over the previous year. The traffic handled in Coastal Unloaded category in 2001-02 was 1746 thousand tonnes. It recorded 17.1% growth over the previous year. The traffic handled in Coastal Loaded category in 2001-02 was 433 thousand tonnes. It recorded 35.31% growth over the previous year.

The total growth recorded during 2000-01 to 2013-14 was 225.49%. The traffic handled in Overseas Loaded category in 2013-14 was 28969 thousand tonnes. It recorded 1.63% growth over the previous year. The total growth recorded during 2000-01 to 2013-14 was 278.98%. The traffic handled in Coastal Unloaded category in 2013-14 was 1548 thousand tonnes. It recorded 32.31% growth over the previous year. The total growth recorded during 2000-01 to 2013-14 was 3.82%. The traffic handled in Coastal Loaded category in 2013-14 was 2131 thousand tonnes. It recorded -7.06% decline over the previous year. The total growth recorded during 2000-01 to 2013-14 was 565.94%.
