Top 5 States/UTs in terms of Production of Wool in India during 2015-16

During 2015-16, Production of wool was 43.6 thousand tonne in India. In percentage term the annual growth rate of wool production in India was -9.36% during 2015-16 in comparison to the previous year 2014-15. We have seen a growth of 0.42% in production of wool in India from 47.9 thousand tonne during 2013-14 to 48.1 thousand tonne during 2014-15. The top 5 States/UTs in terms of production of wool during 2015-16 were: Rajasthan, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana and Gujarat.

Wool production in Rajasthan was 13.4 thousand tonne during 2015-16, which accounted 30.73% of total wool produced in India during the year. In Rajasthan, we have seen a decline of -7.59% in production of wool during 2015-16 over 2014-15. Wool production in Karnataka was 8.2 thousand tonne during 2015-16, which accounted 18.81% of total wool produced in India during the year. In Karnataka, we have seen a decline of -6.82% in production of wool during 2015-16 over 2014-15. Wool production in Jammu & Kashmir was 6.9 thousand tonne during 2015-16, which accounted 15.83% of total wool produced in India during the year. In Jammu & Kashmir, we have seen a decline of -17.86% in production of wool during 2015-16 over 2014-15.

Wool production in Telangana was 4.6 thousand tonne during 2015-16, which accounted 10.55% of total wool produced in India during the year. In Telangana, we have seen a growth of 4.55% in production of wool during 2015-16 over 2014-15. Wool production in Gujarat was 2.3 thousand tonne during 2015-16, which accounted 5.28% of total wool produced in India during the year. In Gujarat, we have seen a decline of -11.54% in production of wool during 2015-16 over 2014-15.

The above mentioned top 5 states accounted for 81.19% of the total wool produced in India as a whole during 2015-16.
