Top 5 States/UTs in Estimates of Meat Production in 2012-13

The total production of meat in India was 4279.61 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09. The total production of meat in India was 5948.17 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 1668.56 thousand tonnes (38.99%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. The top 5 States/UTs in production of meat in 2012-13 were: Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

The total production of meat in Uttar Pradesh was 767.33 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09. The total production of meat in Uttar Pradesh was 1136.85 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 369.52 thousand tonnes (48.16%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. Uttar Pradesh accounted for 19.11% of total production of meat in India.

The total production of meat in Andhra Pradesh was 603.58 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09.The total production of meat in Andhra Pradesh was 906.23 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 302.65 thousand tonnes (50.14%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. Andhra Pradesh accounted for 15.24% of total production of meat in India.

The total production of meat in West Bengal was 515.71 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09.The total production of meat in West Bengal was 648.36 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 132.65 thousand tonnes (25.72%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. West Bengal accounted for 10.9% of total production of meat in India.

The total production of meat in Maharashtra was 535.87 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09.The total production of meat in Maharashtra was 590.68 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 54.81 thousand tonnes (10.23%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. Maharashtra accounted for 9.93% of total production of meat in India.

The total production of meat in Tamil Nadu was 456.89 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-09.The total production of meat in Tamil Nadu was 462.34 thousand tonnes during the year 2012-13. There was an absolute growth of 5.45 thousand tonnes (1.19%) in the production of meat over 2008-09. Tamil Nadu accounted for 7.77% of total production of meat in India.
