Top 5 States/UTs with respect to Procurement of Wheat for Central Pool in India during 2018-19

Total procurement of wheat for central pool was 357.95 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in India during 2018-19, up by 16.13% against 308.24 LMT during 2017-18. Out of 357.95 LMT wheat procured during 2018-19, 42.59 LMT (11.9%) was procured by Food Corporation of India (FCI) and 315.36 LMT (88.1%) was procured by state agencies. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to total procurement of wheat for central pool during 2018-19 were Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The total procurement of wheat for central pool was 117.06 LMT from Punjab in 2017-18. It has surged by 8.42% to 126.92 LMT during 2018-19 over 2017-18. We have observed annual growth of 18.19% in total procurement of wheat from Haryana to 87.84 LMT during 2018-19 versus 74.32 LMT during 2017-18. There was 67.25 LMT total procurement of wheat for central pool from Madhya Pradesh in 2017-18. It has jumped by 8.74% to 73.13 LMT during 2018-19 above 2017-18.

During 2018-19, the total procurement of wheat for central pool was 52.94 LMT from Uttar Pradesh and 15.32 LMT from Rajasthan. Annual growth of 43.12% and 23.05% has been seen in total procurement of wheat from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan respectively during 2018-19 against 2017-18.
