The telecom services have been recognized the world-over as an important tool for socio economic development for a nation and hence telecom infrastructure is treated as a crucial factor to realize the socio-economic objectives in India. Accordingly, the Department of Telecom has been formulating developmental policies for the accelerated growth of the telecommunication services. The top 5 Circles/States/UTs in terms of number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2016 were: Uttar Pradesh – [E], Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
We have seen a compound annual growth rate of 13.11% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in Uttar Pradesh – [E] from 44.03 million during 2010 to 92.21 million during 2016. In Uttar Pradesh – [E], there was growth of 8.34% and 10.56% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2015 and 2016 respectively compare to the previous year. We have seen a compound annual growth rate of 11.61% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in Maharashtra from 43.52 million during 2010 to 84.1 million during 2016. In Maharashtra, there was growth of 5.99% and 9.31% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2015 and 2016 respectively compare to the previous year.
We have seen a compound annual growth rate of 11.5% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in Tamil Nadu from 42.34 million during 2010 to 81.35 million during 2016. In Tamil Nadu, there was growth of 6.85% and 1.28% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2015 and 2016 respectively compare to the previous year. We have seen a compound annual growth rate of 8.55% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in Andhra Pradesh from 45.62 million during 2010 to 74.65 million during 2016. In Andhra Pradesh, there was growth of 7.15% and 3.75% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2015 and 2016 respectively compare to the previous year.
We have seen a compound annual growth rate of 13.07% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in Bihar from 35.66 million during 2010 to 74.51 million during 2016. In Bihar, there was growth of 12.53% and 7.5% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2015 and 2016 respectively compare to the previous year.
