Top 3 high weightage sectors in Manufactured Products of Wholesale Price Index from January-2017 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year. Top 3 high weightage sectors in Manufactured Products of Wholesale Price Index from January-2017 to May-2017 were Manufacture of Basic Metals, Manufacture of Food Products and Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products.

Manufacture of Basic Metals have a weightage of 9.64632 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Basic Metals increased from 93.7 points in the month of January 2017 to 96.8 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 3.1 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from January 2017 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Manufacture of Basic Metals during this period; ranging from minimum of 93.7 points in the month of January and February 2017 to maximum of 96.8 points in the month of May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Basic Metals during this period was 94.94 points.

Manufacture of Food Products have a weightage of 9.12173 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Food Products decreased from 128 points in the month of January 2017 to 127.2 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of 0.8 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from January 2017 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Manufacture of Food Products during this period; ranging from minimum of 127.2 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 128 points in the month of January and February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Food Products during this period was 127.56 points.

Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products has a weightage of 6.46505 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products increased from 110.7 points in the month of January 2017 to 111.7 points in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 1 points in Wholesale Price Index during the period from January 2017 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products during this period; ranging from minimum of 110.7 points in the month of January 2017 to maximum of 111.7 points in the month of March and May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products during this period was 111.36 points.
