The number of pending cases in the family courts functional in the various States/UTs in India as of May 2016 was 672075. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of the number of pending cases in the family courts were: Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Odisha as of May 2016.
The number of pending cases in the family courts in Uttar Pradesh was 271708 as of May 2016. It accounted for 40.43% of the number of pending cases in the family courts in India as of May 2016.
The number of pending cases in the family courts in Kerala was 55050 as of May 2016. It accounted for 8.19% of the number of pending cases in the family courts in India as of May 2016. The number of pending cases in the family courts in Bihar was 42980 as of May 2016. It accounted for 6.4% of the number of pending cases in the family courts in India as of May 2016.
The number of pending cases in the family courts in Madhya Pradesh was 34165 as of May 2016. It accounted for 5.08% of the number of pending cases in the family courts in India as of May 2016. The number of pending cases in the family courts in Maharashtra was 32361 as of May 2016. It accounted for 4.82% of the number of pending cases in the family courts in India as of May 2016.
These top 5 states accounted for 64.92% of the total number of pending cases in the family courts in India as a whole as of May 2016.

The number of pending cases in the family courts in Delhi was 29122 as of May 2016 (4.33% of All India). The number of pending cases in the family courts in Karnataka was 24612 as of May 2016 (3.66% of All India). The number of pending cases in the family courts in Rajasthan was 21974 as of May 2016 (3.27% of All India). The number of pending cases in the family courts in Odisha was 21856 as of May 2016 (3.25% of All India).
The above mentioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 83.81% of the total number of pending cases in the family courts in India as a whole as of May 2016.
