Top 10 States/UTs in Medical Colleges during 2015-16

The top 10 States/UTs in terms of medical colleges during 2015-16 (as on 01.01.2016) were: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The total number of medical colleges was 50 in Karnataka. The total number of medical seats was 7355 in all the medical colleges of Karnataka. The average number of seats per medical college was 147.1 in Karnataka. Thus, Karnataka was at the top among the various states/UTs of India in terms of the number of medical colleges.

The total number of medical colleges was 48 in Maharashtra. The total number of medical seats was 6595 in all the medical colleges of Maharashtra. The average number of seats per medical college was 137.4 in Maharashtra. The total number of medical colleges was 47 in Andhra Pradesh. The total number of medical seats was 7150 in all the medical colleges of Andhra Pradesh. The average number of seats per medical college was 152.13 in Andhra Pradesh.

The total number of medical colleges was 46 in Tamil Nadu. The total number of medical seats was 6115 in all the medical colleges of Tamil Nadu. The average number of seats per medical college was 132.93 in Tamil Nadu. The total number of medical colleges was 36 in Uttar Pradesh. The total number of medical seats was 4699 in all the medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh. The average number of seats per medical college was 130.53 in Uttar Pradesh.

The total number of medical colleges was 30 in Kerala. The total number of medical seats was 3650 in all the medical colleges of Kerala. The average number of seats per medical college was 121.67 in Kerala. The total number of medical colleges was 24 in Gujarat. The total number of medical seats was 3230 in all the medical colleges of Gujarat. The average number of seats per medical college was 134.58 in Gujarat.

The total number of medical colleges was 17 in West Bengal. The total number of medical seats was 2450 in all the medical colleges of West Bengal. The average number of seats per medical college was 144.12 in West Bengal. The total number of medical colleges was 14 in Madhya Pradesh. The total number of medical seats was 2000 in all the medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh. The average number of seats per medical college was 142.86 in Madhya Pradesh.

The total number of medical colleges was 13 in Rajasthan. The total number of medical seats was 2150 in all the medical colleges of Rajasthan. The average number of seats per medical college was 165.38 in Rajasthan.  Thus, Rajasthan had the maximum average number of seats per medical college.
