Top 10 States with respect to Children Rescued/Withdrawn from Work, Rehabilitated and Mainstreamed under NCLP Scheme during 2017-18

There were 116957 children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under National Child Labour Project (NCLP) scheme from India in 2014-15. It has decreased by -49.49% to 59076 during 2015-16 above 2014-15. The number of child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India was 45344 during 2017-18, up by 46.37% against 30979 children during 2016-17. The top 10 states with respect to children rescued/withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme during 2017-18 were West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Telangana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Assam and Karnataka.

The number of child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from West Bengal was 16408 during 2017-18, up by 17.43% versus 13973 during 2016-17. West Bengal accounted for 36.19% of the total child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India during 2017-18. There were 11400 children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Madhya Pradesh in 2017-18; which accounted 25.14% of the total child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India. It has increased by 156.64% from 4442 during 2016-17. The number of children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Maharashtra was 4843 during 2017-18. It accounted 10.68% of the total child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India during the same period. We have seen annual growth of 186.23% in children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Maharashtra during 2017-18 from 1692 during 2016-17.

There were 2855 children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Tamil Nadu during 2017-18; which accounted 6.3% of the total child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India. The number of children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Bihar was 2800 during 2017-18. It accounted 6.18% of the total child labourers rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from India during the same period.

The number of children rescued/ withdrawn from work, rehabilitated and mainstreamed under NCLP scheme from Telangana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Assam and Karnataka was 2137, 1621, 994, 915 and 679 respectively during 2017-18.
