As on 29th February 2020, there were 19,160 (79.77%) judicial officers/ judges working in district and subordinate courts in India against sanctioned strength of 24,018. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to judicial officers/ judges working in district & subordinate courts as on 29-02-2020 were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Odisha.
The number of working strength of judicial officers/ judges in district & subordinate courts in Uttar Pradesh was 2,581 (71.02%) as on 29th Feb 2020, out of 3,634 sanctioned strength. There were 1,940 (88.62%) judicial officers/ judges working in district & subordinate courts in Maharashtra as on 29.02.2020 versus sanctioned strength of 2,189. The number of working strength of judicial officers/ judges in district & subordinate courts in Madhya Pradesh was 1,651 (81.69%) as on 29-02-2020 against sanctioned strength of 2,021. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh accounted for 13.47%, 10.13% and 8.62% respectively of the total working strength of judicial officers/ judges in district & subordinate courts in India as on 29th February 2020.
There were 1,437 and 1,183 judicial officers/ judges working in district & subordinate courts in Bihar and Gujarat respectively as on 29th Feb 2020. Bihar accounted for 7.5% and Gujarat accounted for 6.17% of the total working strength of judicial officers/ judges in district & subordinate courts in India as on 29.02.2020.
As on 29th Feb 2020, the number of working strength of judicial officers/ judges in district & subordinate courts in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Odisha was 1,119, 1,098, 1,080, 918 and 771 respectively.
