Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) which is a major credit-linked subsidy programme aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth. Any individual above 18 years of age is eligible for this programme.
Totally 3,631 units were set-up in India under PMEGP during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019). The top 10 States/UTs with respect to units set-up under PMEGP during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019) were Maharashtra, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.
The number of units set-up under PMEGP was 384 in Maharashtra during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019), which accounted 10.58% of the total units set-up under PMEGP in India. There were set-up of 270 units under PMEGP in Assam during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019). It accounted 7.44% of the total units set-up under PMEGP in India during the same period. The number of units set-up under PMEGP was 244 in Jammu & Kashmir during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019), which accounted 6.72% of the total units set-up under PMEGP in India.
There were set-up of 227 and 221 units under PMEGP in Karnataka and West Bengal respectively during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019). Karnataka accounted for 6.25% and West Bengal accounted for 6.09% of the total units set-up under PMEGP in India during 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019).
During 2019-20 (as on 19th Jun 2019), the number of units set-up under PMEGP was 206, 201, 160, 155 and 149 in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh respectively.
