As on 31st March 2019, there were 34,967,080 persons insured under Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme in India. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to insured persons covered under ESI scheme as on 31.03.2019 were Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The number of persons insured from Maharashtra was 4,847,980 under ESI scheme as on 31st March 2019, which accounted 13.86% of the total persons insured under ESI scheme in India. There were 4,300,200 insured persons from Tamil Nadu covered under ESI scheme as on 31/03/2019. It accounted 12.3% of the total persons insured under ESI scheme in India as on the same period. The number of persons insured from Karnataka was 3,473,410 under ESI scheme as on 31.03.2019, which accounted 9.93% of the total persons insured under ESI scheme in India.
There were 2,809,260 and 2,263,350 insured persons covered under ESI scheme from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh respectively as on 31st March 2019. Haryana accounted for 8.03% and Uttar Pradesh accounted for 6.47% of the total persons insured under ESI scheme in India as on 31/03/2019.
As on 31st March 2019, the number of persons insured from West Bengal, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat and Rajasthan was 1,922,090, 1,817,770, 1,716,640, 1,627,460 and 1,492,990 respectively. These aforementioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 75.13% of the total persons insured under ESI scheme in India as a whole as on 31.03.2019.
