The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has implemented the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) [PMAY (U)] since 25.06.2015 for providing assistance to States/ Union Territories (UTs) for addressing the housing requirement for the people belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in the urban areas.
There was sanction of Rs. 6,014.9, 17,989.05 and 38,199.25 crore in India under PMAY (U) as central assistance from 2016-17 to 2018-19 respectively. We have seen annual growth of 199.07% during 2017-18 and 112.35% during 2018-19 in central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) in India. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) during 2018-19 were Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, West Bengal and Bihar.
The central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) was Rs. 7,431.57 crore for Uttar Pradesh during 2018-19, up by 235.39% against Rs. 2,215.81 crore during 2017-18. Annual growth of 107.07% has been observed in central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) for Andhra Pradesh from Rs. 2,971.65 crore during 2017-18 to Rs. 6,153.25 crore during 2018-19. The central assistance of Rs. 982.79 crore was sanctioned under PMAY (U) for Maharashtra during 2017-18. It has surged by 511.99% to Rs. 6,014.55 crore during 2018-19 over 2017-18. Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra accounted for 19.45%, 16.11% and 15.75% respectively of the total central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) in India during 2018-19.
During 2018-19, there was sanction of Rs. 3,652.34 and 3,147.22 crore for Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh respectively under PMAY (U) as central assistance. Gujarat accounted for 9.56% and Madhya Pradesh accounted for 8.24% of the total central assistance sanctioned under PMAY (U) in India during 2018-19.
The central assistance of Rs. 1,621.61, 1,614, 1,338.6, 1,308.56 and 913.38 crore was sanctioned under PMAY (U) for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, West Bengal and Bihar respectively during 2018-19.
