The total budgetary allocation for repair & maintenance of national highways (NHs) of India was Rs. 2,966.75 crore during 2017-18, up by 4.22% against Rs. 2,846.68 crore during 2016-17. Annual growth of 5.5% has been observed in total allocation for repair & maintenance of NHs of India during 2016-17 from Rs. 2,698.4 crore during 2015-16. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to budgetary allocation for repair & maintenance of NHs during 2017-18 were Maharashtra, Karnataka, Mizoram, Assam, Bihar, Kerala, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
The allocation of fund for repair & maintenance of NHs in Maharashtra was Rs. 319.23 crore in 2016-17. It has declined by -29.28% to Rs. 225.75 crore during 2017-18 above 2016-17. We have seen annual de-growth of -38.01% in allocation of fund for repair & maintenance of NHs in Karnataka from Rs. 204.53 crore during 2016-17 to Rs. 126.78 crore during 2017-18. The budgetary allocation for repair & maintenance of NHs in Mizoram was Rs. 125.93 crore during 2017-18, up by 95.21% versus Rs. 64.51 crore during 2016-17. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Mizoram accounted for 7.61%, 4.27% and 4.24% respectively of the total fund allocated for repair & maintenance of NHs in India during 2017-18.
There was budgetary allocation of Rs. 122.63 crore and Rs. 121.68 crore for repair & maintenance of NHs in Assam and Bihar respectively during 2017-18. Assam accounted for 4.13% and Bihar accounted for 4.1% of the total fund allocated for repair & maintenance of NHs in India during 2017-18.
During 2017-18, the allocation of fund for repair & maintenance of NHs in Kerala, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh was Rs. 113.99, 107.6, 88.53, 83.52 and 79.02 crore respectively.
