Ministry of Labour and Employment has launched Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) for old age protection of Unorganised Workers, in the form of monthly pension, which is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for providing monthly minimum assured pension of Rs. 3,000/- on attaining the age of 60 years. The unorganised workers in the age group of 18-40 years whose monthly income is Rs. 15,000/- or less and not a member of EPFO/ESIC/NPS (Govt. funded) can join the scheme. Under the scheme, 50% monthly contribution is payable by the beneficiary and equal matching contribution is paid by the Central Government.
There were 3,699,836 beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM in India as on 25th February 2020. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to enrollment of beneficiaries under PM-SYM as on 25/02/2020 were Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
The number of beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM was 700,535 from Haryana as on 25th Feb 2020, which accounted 18.93% of the total beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM in India. There were enrollments of 590,254 beneficiaries under PM-SYM from Uttar Pradesh as on 25.02.2020. It accounted 15.95% of the total beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM in India as on the same period. The number of beneficiaries enrolled from Maharashtra was 580,411 under PM-SYM as on 25/02/2020, which accounted 15.69% of the total beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM in India.
There were enrollments of 366,547 and 196,828 beneficiaries under PM-SYM from Gujarat and Chhattisgarh respectively as on 25/02/2020. Gujarat accounted for 9.91% and Chhattisgarh accounted for 5.32% of the total beneficiaries enrolled under PM-SYM in India as on 25.02.2020.
As on 25th Feb 2020, the number of beneficiaries enrolled from Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh was 178,283, 155,222, 127,166, 118,861 and 106,171 respectively under PM-SYM.
