According to Crime in India – 2016 report, there were a total of 111569 Missing Children (Below 18 Years) in India during 2016; out of which 48162 were Unrecovered/Untraced Missing Children from Previous years and 63407 were Missing Children during 2016. Out of these 111569 Missing Children (Below 18 Years) during 2016, 70394 were female and 41175 were male.
Recovery of female Missing Children was 35580 (50.5%) and male Missing Children was 20364 (49.5%) during 2016 in India. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of high Percentage Recovery of Missing Children (Below 18 Years) during 2016 were; Manipur, A & N Islands, Kerala, Tripura, Puducherry, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Telangana.
Percentage Recovery of Missing Children were 92.5%, 90.6%, 87.6%, 86.8%, 84.5%, 84.2%, 81.8%, 80.3%, 76.5% and 76.5% in Manipur, A & N Islands, Kerala, Tripura, Puducherry, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Telangana respectively during 2016. In Manipur, A & N Islands, Kerala, Tripura, Puducherry, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Telangana had 93.2%, 92.5%, 88.7%, 86.8%, 81.1%, 86%, 79.6%, 84.9%, 80.6% and 80.1% respectively recovery of female missing children and 92%, 84.6%, 86.5%, 86.8%, 90.5%, 82.1%, 85.7%, 71.8%, 69.9% and 70.7% respectively recovery male missing children during 2016.
There were 2 States/UTs namely Mizoram and Lakshadweep where 0 (zero) missing Children reported during 2016 and 0 (zero) Unrecovered/Untraced Missing Children reported from Previous years as well. The 5 States/UTs in terms of low Percentage Recovery of Missing Children (Below 18 Years) during 2016 were; Odisha, D&N Haveli, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir with 10.2%, 25%, 31.9%, 32.6% and 33.1% respectively.
