The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing the Swadhar Greh scheme which targets the women victims of difficult circumstances who are in need of institutional support for rehabilitation so that they could lead their life with dignity. The Scheme envisages providing shelter, food, clothing and health as well as economic and social security for these women.
The total number of women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme was 17291 in India during 2017-18 (as on 09.03.2018), up by 4.6% versus 16530 during 2016-17. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme during 2017-18 (as on 09.03.2018) were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Telangana and Manipur.
The number of women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme was 2741 in Uttar Pradesh during 2017-18, which accounted 15.85% of the total women beneficiaries in India under this scheme. Annual growth of 26.9% has been observed in women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme in Uttar Pradesh during 2017-18 from 2160 beneficiaries during 2016-17. There were 2280 women beneficiaries in Maharashtra under Swadhar Greh scheme during 2017-18 and 2016-17 each. Maharashtra accounted for 13.19% of the total women beneficiaries in India under this scheme during 2017-18. The number of women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme was 2160 in Odisha during 2017-18, which accounted 12.49% of the total women beneficiaries in India under this scheme. We have seen annual decline of -137 basis points in women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme in Odisha during 2017-18 against 2160 beneficiaries during 2016-17.
There were 1830 and 1440 women beneficiaries in Karnataka and West Bengal respectively under Swadhar Greh scheme during 2017-18. Karnataka accounted for 10.58% and West Bengal accounted for 8.33% of the total women beneficiaries in India under this scheme during 2017-18.
The number of women beneficiaries under Swadhar Greh scheme was 1200, 780, 720, 720 and 690 in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Telangana and Manipur respectively during 2017-18.
