Top 10 States in Targets of Road Construction under PMGSY during 2016-17

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched on 25th December 2000 as a fully funded Centrally Sponsored Scheme to provide all weather road connectivity in rural areas of the country. It envisages connecting all habitations with a population of 500 persons and above in the plain areas and 250 persons and above in hill States, the tribal and the desert areas.

The target of road length to be constructed under PMGSY in various states in India was 48812 kilometers during 2016-17. The top 10 states in terms of the target of road construction under PMGSY were: Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh during 2016-17.

The target of road construction under PMGSY in Bihar was 6540 kilometers during 2016-17. It accounted for 13.4% of the target of road construction under PMGSY in India during 2016-17.

The target of road construction under PMGSY in Madhya Pradesh was 6200 kilometers during 2016-17. It accounted for 12.7% of the target of road construction under PMGSY in India during 2016-17. The target of road construction under PMGSY in Odisha was 6200 kilometers during 2016-17. It accounted for 12.7% of the target of road construction under PMGSY in India during 2016-17.

The target of road construction under PMGSY in West Bengal was 4100 kilometers during 2016-17. It accounted for 8.4% of the target of road construction under PMGSY in India during 2016-17. The target of road construction under PMGSY in Uttar Pradesh was 3900 kilometers during 2016-17. It accounted for 7.99% of the target of road construction under PMGSY in India during 2016-17.

These top 5 states accounted for 55.19% of the total target of road construction under PMGSY in India as a whole during 2016-17.

The target of road construction under PMGSY in Jharkhand was 3000 kilometers during 2016-17 (6.15% of All India). The target of road construction under PMGSY in Rajasthan was 3000 kilometers during 2016-17 (6.15% of All India). The target of road construction under PMGSY in Chhattisgarh was 2750 kilometers during 2016-17 (5.63% of All India). The target of road construction under PMGSY in Maharashtra was 1900 kilometers during 2016-17 (3.89% of All India). The target of road construction under PMGSY in Andhra Pradesh was 1350 kilometers during 2016-17 (2.77% of All India).

The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 79.78% of the total target of road construction under PMGSY in India as a whole during 2016-17.
