Top 10 States in Female Student Enrolment in Higher Education in 2012-13

Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 to prepare a sound database on Higher Education in the country. The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting the higher education. It is getting updated from the annual data submitted by the institutions.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in All India in 2012-2013 was 11582708. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in All India was 44.96%.

The 10 States/UTs with highest female student enrolment for all higher education institutions during 2012-13 were: Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Telangana. Top 5 States accounted for 52.14% of the total female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in India.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in Uttar Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 1732160. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in Uttar Pradesh out of the total female student enrolment in India was 14.95%, while the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in Uttar Pradesh was 48.74%.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in Tamil Nadu in 2012-2013 was 1478853. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in Tamil Nadu out of the total female student enrolment in India was 12.77%, while the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in Tamil Nadu was 46.01%.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in Maharashtra in 2012-2013 was 1235856. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in Maharashtra out of the total female student enrolment in India was 10.67%, while the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in Maharashtra was 42.27%.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in Karnataka in 2012-2013 was 873555. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in Karnataka out of the total female student enrolment in India was 7.54%, while the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in Karnataka was 46.98%.

The number of female student enrolment for all higher education institutions in West Bengal in 2012-2013 was 719354. Thus, the percentage of female student enrolment in West Bengal out of the total female student enrolment in India was 6.21%, while the percentage of female student enrolment in total student enrolment in West Bengal was 43.35%.
