Top 10 Medical Councils in terms of Allopathic Doctors Registered as on 31st March, 2018

In India, there were a total of 10,78,732 allopathic doctors registered with the State Medical Councils/Medical Council of India as on 31st March 2018. The top 10 Medical Councils in terms of number of allopathic doctors registered as on 31st March, 2018 were Maharashtra Medical Council, Tamil Nadu Medical Council, Karnataka Medical Council, Andhra Pradesh Medical Council, Uttar Pradesh Medical Council, West Bengal Medical Council, Gujarat Medical Council, Travancore Medical Council, Medical Council of India and Punjab Medical Council.

The number of allopathic doctors registered with Maharashtra Medical Council was 158998 as on 31st March 2018, which accounted 14.74% of the total allopathic doctors registered in India. There were 127848 allopathic doctors registered under Tamil Nadu Medical Council as on 31st March, 2018. It accounted 11.85% of the total number of allopathic doctors registered in India as on 31-03-2018. The number of allopathic doctors registered with Karnataka Medical Council was 104794 as on 31st March 2018, which accounted 9.71% of the total allopathic doctors registered in India.

There were 93756 and 72757 allopathic doctors registered under Andhra Pradesh Medical Council and Uttar Pradesh Medical Council respectively as on 31st March, 2018. Andhra Pradesh Medical Council accounted for 8.69% and Uttar Pradesh Medical Council accounted for 6.74% of the total number of allopathic doctors registered in India as on 31-03-2018.

The number of allopathic doctors registered with West Bengal Medical Council, Gujarat Medical Council, Travancore Medical Council, Medical Council of India and Punjab Medical Council was 69097, 59252, 56999, 52666 and 46264 respectively as on 31st March 2018.

Note: Source: RAJYA SABHA SESSION – 246 STARRED QUESTION No 136; The other State/UTs do not have their own Medical Registration Council. Hence, their workers get registration with the Councils of other neighbouring States.
