The number of employments in Tamil Nadu was 1395 during 2016-17 under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), up by 27.98% from 1090 during 2015-16. The top 10 districts of Tamil Nadu in terms of employment under PMEGP during 2016-17 were Chennai, Theni, Thiruvallur, Tiruvarur, Erode, Thiruvannamalai, Nagappattinam, Thanjavur, Kancheepuram and Tirunelveli.
The number of employments in Chennai districts of Tamil Nadu was 70 under PMEGP during 2016-17. It has accounted for 5.02% of the total employments in Tamil Nadu under PMEGP during 2016-17. There were 66 employments in Theni districts of Tamil Nadu under PMEGP during 2016-17, which accounted 4.73% of the total employments in Tamil Nadu under PMEGP during 2016-17. The number of employments in Thiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu was 62 under PMEGP during 2016-17. It has accounted for 4.44% of the total employments in Tamil Nadu under PMEGP during 2016-17.
The number of employments in Tiruvarur, Erode, Thiruvannamalai, Nagappattinam, Thanjavur, Kancheepuram and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu was 55, 50, 50, 49, 49, 48 and 48 respectively under PMEGP during 2016-17. Tiruvarur, Erode, Thiruvannamalai, Nagappattinam, Thanjavur, Kancheepuram and Tirunelveli districts of Tamil Nadu accounted for 3.94%, 3.58%, 3.58%, 3.51%, 3.51%, 3.44% and 3.44% respectively of the total employments in Tamil Nadu under PMEGP during 2016-17.
