Subsidies as percentage of total expenditure stood at 9.22 percent in the year 2004-05, while it has almost doubled to 18 percent in the FY 2012-13(Revised).
For the FY 2013-14, the ratio drops to 13.88 percent on account of lower budget provisioning against the subsidies category – primarily on account of lower petroleum subsidies. Subsidies form the second largest component under the non plan expenditure of the government. For the FY 2013-14 the budgeted amount of subsidy stands at Rs. 2.31 Bn which is less than the revised budget of Rs. 2.57 Bn over the previous year. During the period 2004-05 to 2013-14, it has witnessed CAGR of 19.65 percent.
