State/UT-wise Railway Accidental deaths during 2014

There were two types of accidental deaths i.e. Natural accidental death and Un-natural accidental death. During 2014, there were 316828 Un-natural accidental deaths reported in India. Out of 316828 Un-natural accidental deaths, 251791 (79.47%) were male, 64977 (20.51%) were female and 60 (0.02%) were transgender.

Out of 316828 Un-natural accidental deaths; there were 25006 accidental deaths reported due to Railway Accidents which contributed 7.9% of all India. Out of 25006 Railway accidental deaths, 21407 (85.61%) were male, 3587 (14.34%) were female and 12 (0.05%) were transgender.

There were 12 States/UTs named Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Himachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura in which each States / UTs reported zero Railway accidental deaths.

There were 21 States/UTs which each State/UT had contributed greater than 0% but less than 10% out of All India total (25006) railway accidental deaths. Those 21 States / UTs were Telangana, Puducherry, Nagaland, Karnataka, Goa, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Kerala, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Assam, Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh which reported railway accidental deaths of 3 (0.01%), 3 (0.01%), 11 (0.04%), 25 (0.1%), 27 (0.1%), 35 (0.1%), 53 (0.2%), 246 (1%), 355 (1.4%), 368 (1.5%), 604 (2.4%), 637 (2.5%), 642 (2.6%), 679 (2.7%), 856 (3.4%), 1016 (4.1%), 1164 (4.7%), 1361 (5.4%), 1466 (5.9%), 1833 (7.3%) and 1897 (7.6%) respectively.

There were 3 States where each State had contributed greater than 10% Railway accidental deaths out of All India total (25006). Those 3 States were West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra which reported Railway accidental deaths of 2702 (10.8%), 3999 (16%) and 5024 (20.1%) respectively.
