States/UTs-wise Details of Budget Sanctioned/ Released under Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) from 2014-15 to 2017-18

The Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented in partnership with the States and UTs. The overall responsibility for providing cooked and nutritious mid-day meal to the eligible children lies with the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. The States and UTs fix their menu as per their local needs, in order to meet the prescribed nutritional content. Some States and UTs also provide milk, egg etc. as additional item from own resources to ensure the fulfillment of nutritional content under the scheme.

During 2015-16, Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in India under MDM Scheme was Rs. 913231 lakhs. The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in India was Rs. 947861 lakhs under MDM Scheme during 2016-17. The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in India under MDM Scheme was Rs. 683166 lakhs during 2017-18 (as on 26.12.2017).

The top 5 States/UTs in terms of Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released under MDM Scheme during 2017-18 (as on 26.12.2017) were Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Assam.

The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in Bihar was Rs. 97871.58 lakhs under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. It accounted 14.33% of the total amount Sanctioned/ Released by Centre under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in Uttar Pradesh was Rs. 73095.92 lakhs under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. It accounted 10.70% of the total amount Sanctioned/ Released by Centre under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in Maharashtra was Rs. 63705.69 lakhs under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. It accounted 9.33% of the total amount Sanctioned/ Released by Centre under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. The Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in West Bengal was Rs. 53008.69 lakhs under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. It accounted 7.76% of the total amount Sanctioned/ Released by Centre under MDM Scheme during 2017-18. During 2017-18, Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released in Assam under MDM Scheme was Rs. 41726.81 lakhs, which accounted 6.11% of the total amount Sanctioned/ Released by Center during this year.

These top 5 states accounted for 71.97% of the total Central Assistance Sanctioned/ Released under Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) in India as a whole during 2017-18 (as on 26.12.2017).
