State-wise Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in 2012-2013

Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 to prepare a sound database on Higher Education in the country. The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting the higher education. It is getting updated from the annual data submitted by the institutions.

The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in All India in 2012-2013 was 341726. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Maharashtra in 2012-2013 was 73592. It was 21.54% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. Thus, Maharashtra was on the top. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Tamil Nadu in 2012-2013 was 41657. It was 12.19% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Karnataka in 2012-2013 was 27923. It was 8.17% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. These three states accounted for 41.9% of total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Uttar Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 20945. It was 6.13% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India.

The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in West Bengal in 2012-2013 was 17696. It was 5.18% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Gujarat in 2012-2013 was 17082. It was 5% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India.

The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Madhya Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 15944. It was 4.67% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Andhra Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 15892. It was 4.65% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Kerala in 2012-2013 was 12463. It was 3.65% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India. The Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in Haryana in 2012-2013 was 11533. It was 3.37% of the total Sanctioned Strength of Teaching Staff in India.
