State-wise number of teachers for all education institutions – 2012-2013

Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 to prepare a sound database on Higher Education in the country. The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting the higher education. It is getting updated from the annual data submitted by the institutions.

The number of teachers for all education institutions in All India in 2012-2013 was 1083811. Out of these, the number of males was 657375, while the number of females was 426436. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 60.65%, while the percentage of females was 39.35%. The 5 States/UTs with highest number of teachers for all education institutions in 2012-2013 were Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu was on top with 183916 teachers for all education institutions in 2012-2013. Out of these, the number of males was 99617, while the number of females was 84299. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 54.16%, while the percentage of females was 45.84%.

The number of teachers for all education institutions in Maharashtra in 2012-2013 was 137727. Out of these, the number of males was 87692, while the number of females was 50035. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 63.67%, while the percentage of females was 36.33%. The number of teachers for all education institutions in Karnataka in 2012-2013 was 129049. Out of these, the number of males was 77404, while the number of females was 51645. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 59.98%, while the percentage of females was 40.02%.

The number of teachers for all education institutions in Uttar Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 86392. Out of these, the number of males was 57857, while the number of females was 28535. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 66.97%, while the percentage of females was 33.03%. The number of teachers for all education institutions in Andhra Pradesh in 2012-2013 was 65498. Out of these, the number of males was 43137, while the number of females was 22361. Thus, the percentage of male teachers was 65.86%, while the percentage of females was 34.14%.
