State/UT-wise Persons Killed in Road Accidents on State Highways from 2015 to 2018

There were 39,812 persons killed in road accidents on state highways in India during 2017. It has increased by 1.93% to 40,580 during 2018 above 2017. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to persons killed in road accidents on state highways in India during 2018 were Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

The number of persons killed in road accidents on state highways in Uttar Pradesh was 7,179 during 2018, up by 20.41% against 5,962 during 2017. We have observed annual decline of -24.71% in persons killed in road accidents on state highways in Tamil Nadu from 5,691 during 2017 to 4,285 during 2018. The number of persons killed in road accidents on state highways in Maharashtra was 3,622 during 2017. It has shrunk by -4.86% to 3,446 during 2018 over 2017. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra accounted for 17.69%, 10.56% and 8.49% respectively of the total persons killed in road accidents on state highways in India during 2018.

There were 3,180 and 3,058 persons killed in road accidents on state highways in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka respectively during 2018. Madhya Pradesh accounted for 7.84% and Karnataka accounted for 7.54% of the total persons killed in road accidents on state highways in India during 2018.
