This chart illustrates the information about the State/UT-wise number of beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) under the National Food Security Act, 2013 as on 31-08-2024. As per the provisions of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, the Public Distribution System (PDS) facilitates food security by ensuring access to essential commodities for economically vulnerable populations. As of August 31, 2024. The total number of beneficiaries under the PDS was 8,067.47 lakh across various states and union territories. The top 10 state/UT on terms of beneficiaries were Uttar Pradesh (1509.82 lakh), Bihar (871.16 lakh), Maharashtra (700.17 lakh), West Bengal (601.84 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (534.79 lakh), Rajasthan (440.01 lakh), Karnataka (401.93 lakh), Tamil Nadu (364.12 lakh), Gujarat (362.98 lakh), Odisha (325.17 lakh).
