State/UT-wise Installed Capacity of Hydro Power Generation As on 31st May 2019

As on 31st May 2019, total installed capacity of hydro power generation was 45,399.22 mega watt (MW) in India. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to installed capacity of hydro power generation as on 31-05-2019 were Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir and Maharashtra.

The installed capacity of hydro power generation in Himachal Pradesh was 9,809.02 MW as on 31st May 2019, which accounted 21.61% of the total installed capacity of hydro power generation in India. There was 3,756.35 MW of installed capacity of hydro power generation in Uttarakhand as on 31-05-2019. It accounted 8.27% of the total installed capacity of hydro power generation in India as on the same period. The installed capacity of hydro power generation in Karnataka was 3,644.2 MW as on 31st May 2019, which accounted 8.03% of the total installed capacity of hydro power generation in India.

There was 3,449 MW and 3,047 MW of installed capacity of hydro power generation in Jammu & Kashmir and Maharashtra respectively as on 31-05-2019. Jammu & Kashmir accounted for 7.6% and Maharashtra accounted for 6.71% of the total installed capacity of hydro power generation in India as on 31st May 2019.

These aforementioned top 5 states accounted for 52.22% of the total installed capacity of hydro power generation in India as a whole as on 31st May 2019.
