State/UT-wise Income Tax Returns (ITRs) Filed in India in FY 2017-18

Total of 68,591,547 Income Tax Returns (ITRs) (including revised) were filed in India in financial year (FY) 2017-18. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to ITRs (including revised) filed in India in FY 2017-18 were Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

The number of ITRs (including revised) filed in Maharashtra was 11,173,447 in 2017-18, which accounted 16.29% of the total ITRs (including revised) filed in India. There were 7,053,256 ITRs (including revised) filed in Gujarat in 2017-18. It accounted 10.28% of the total ITRs (including revised) filed in India during the same period. The number of ITRs (including revised) filed in Uttar Pradesh was 6,258,870 in 2017-18, which accounted 9.12% of the total ITRs (including revised) filed in India.

There were 4,613,164 and 4,402,652 ITRs (including revised) filed in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal respectively in 2017-18. Tamil Nadu accounted for 6.73% and West Bengal accounted for 6.42% of the total ITRs (including revised) filed in India during 2017-18.

These aforementioned top 5 states accounted for 48.84% of the total ITRs (including revised) filed in India as a whole in FY 2017-18.
