As on 31st March 2018, there were 24,899 (87.16%) doctors in position at district hospitals in India out of 28,566 doctors sanctioned. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to doctors in position at district hospitals as on 31-03-2018 were Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The number of doctors in position at district hospitals of Uttar Pradesh was 3,604 (83.45%) as on 31-03-2018, which accounted 14.47% of the total doctors at district hospitals in India. Where as the sanctioned strength of doctors at district hospitals of Uttar Pradesh was 4,319 as on 31st March 2018. There were 2,409 (75.14%) doctors in position at district hospitals of Madhya Pradesh as on 31-03-2018 out of 3,206 doctors sanctioned. It accounted 9.68% of the total doctors in position at district hospitals in India as on the same period. The number of doctors in position at district hospitals of Rajasthan was 1,466 (73.37%) as on 31-03-2018, which accounted 5.89% of the total doctors at district hospitals in India. Where as the sanctioned strength of doctors at district hospitals of Rajasthan was 1,998 as on 31st March 2018.
There were 1,403 (75.07%) and 1,366 (79.1%) doctors in position at district hospitals of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka respectively as on 31st March 2018. Tamil Nadu accounted for 5.63% and Karnataka accounted for 5.49% of the total doctors in position at district hospitals in India as on 31-03-2018. The sanctioned strength of doctors at district hospitals of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka was 1,869 and 1,727 respectively as on 31-03-2018.
