State/UT-wise Approval for Uniform under APIP for Implementation of Anganwadi Services in 2019-20

The Ministry of Women & Child Development is implementing umbrella Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme for attending the need of the children in India, especially to improve their nutritional and childhood development. Under the umbrella ICDS, the schemes namely (i) Anganwadi Services, (ii) Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna, (iii) Scheme for Adolescent Girls, and (iv) POSHAN Abhiyaan are specifically dealing with the issue of malnutrition.

Anganwadi Services provides six child development related services i.e. Supplementary Nutrition, Pre-school Education, Health & Nutrition Education, Immunization, Health check-up and Referral Services. The services are provided at the Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) through Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) to the beneficiaries (children 0-6 years old and Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers). The objectives of the scheme are to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age-group 0-6 years; to lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child; to reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout; to achieve effective co-ordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development; and to enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education.

Total amount of Rs. 20,052.42 lakhs was approved for uniform component under Annual Programme Implementation Plan (APIP) for implementation of Anganwadi services in India in 2019-20. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to wise amount approved for uniform component under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in 2019-20 were Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

The amount approved for uniform was Rs. 2,586.83 lakhs under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in Uttar Pradesh in 2019-20, which accounted 12.9% of the total amount approved for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in India. There was approval of Rs. 1,669.35 lakhs for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in West Bengal in 2019-20. It accounted 8.32% of the total amount approved for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in India for the same period. The amount of Rs. 1,573.18 lakhs was approved for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in Maharashtra in 2019-20, which accounted 7.85% of the total amount approved for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in India.

There was approval of Rs. 1,460.5 and 1,428.66 lakhs for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh respectively in 2019-20. Bihar accounted for 7.28% and Madhya Pradesh accounted for 7.12% of the total amount approved for uniform under APIP for implementation of Anganwadi services in India in 2019-20.
