Sector-wise Manpower Employed in Oil & Gas Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSEs) as on 31.03.2017

The number of manpower employed was 110058 in Oil & Gas Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) as on 31.03.2017. Out of these 110058 employments as on 31.03.2017; 33152 (30.12%) employment was in Exploration & Production sector, 25089 (22.8%) employment was in Refining sector, 30751 (27.94%) employment was in Marketing sector, 5689 (5.17%) employment was in Pipelines sector, 1986 (1.8%) employment was in Research & Development sector and 13391 (12.17%) employment was in Others sector.

The top 3 CPSEs in terms of manpower employed as on 31.03.2017 were ONGC with 33660 (30.6%), IOCL with 33135 (30.1%) and BPCL with 12479 (11.3%) followed by HPCL, OIL, GAIL, EIL, MRPL, CPCL, Balmer Lawrie, NRL and Biecco Lawrie with 10422, 7228, 4355, 2939, 1911, 1645, 1188, 870 and 226 employment respectively.

We have observed CPSEs like ONGC, OIL and Biecco Lawrie in which employment in Exploration & Production sector was more than 40% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs as on 31.03.2017. The number of manpower employed in Exploration & Production sector was 29369 (87.3%), 3510 (48.6%) and 163 (72.1%) in ONGC, OIL and Biecco Lawrie respectively as on 31.03.2017. We have seen CPSEs like IOCL, BPCL and HPCL in which employment in Marketing sector was more than 40% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs as on 31.03.2017. The number of manpower employed in Marketing sector was 15951 (48.1%), 7528 (60.3%) and 6419 (61.6%) in IOCL, BPCL and HPCL respectively as on 31.03.2017.

We have seen CPSEs like IOCL, CPCL, MRPL and NRL in which employment in Refining sector was more than 40% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs as on 31.03.2017. The number of manpower employed in Refining sector was 13663 (41.2%), 1578 (95.9%), 1812 (94.8%) and 742 (85.3%) in IOCL, CPCL, MRPL and NRL respectively as on 31.03.2017. We have observed CPSEs like OIL, GAIL, Balmer Lawrie and EIL in which employment in others sector was more than 40% of the total manpower employed in individual CPSEs as on 31.03.2017. The number of manpower employed in others sector was 3256 (45.05%), 2164 (49.7%), 1171 (98.6%) and 2846 (96.8%) in OIL, GAIL, Balmer Lawrie and EIL respectively as on 31.03.2017.
