Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure from 2007-08 to 2012-13

Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure of all the states along with Delhi & Puducherry has increased from 22.91% in 2007-08 to 23.55% in 2012-13 (Pre-Actual). There were ups and downs in Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure in this period. Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure of all the states along with Delhi & Puducherry was at the highest level i.e. 25.72% in 2010-11 during the said period. While the lowest level i.e. 21.99% Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure of all the states was in 2008-09.

The 10 States/UTs with highest level of Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure in 2012-13 are: Assam with 35.64%; Jammu and Kashmir with 35.16%; Meghalaya with 35.16%; Tripura with 34.9%; Manipur with 34.45%; Maharashtra with 34.19%; Punjab with 33.36%; Himachal Pradesh with 32.96%; Nagaland with 32.15%; and Mizoram with 32.08%.

Among these top 10 states, Assam has shown highest decline in the Salary Expenditure as percentage of Total Expenditure during the period i.e. from 39.57% in 2007-08 to 35.64% in 2012-13 (Pre-Actual).
