National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) is a crucial component of the National Health Mission (NHM), which encompasses two Sub-Missions, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and the newly launched National Urban Health Mission (NUHM). The main programmatic components include Health System Strengthening in rural and urban areas- Reproductive-Maternal- Neonatal-Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCHA), and Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases. The NHM envisages achievement of universal access to equitable, affordable and quality health care services that are accountable and responsive to people’s needs.
The amount of funds released under NPCDCS in India was Rs. 7567 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 21040 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 13473 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 178.05% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15.
The amount of funds released under NPCDCS for Andaman and Nicobar was Rs. 5 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 25 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 20 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 400% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15. The amount of funds released under NPCDCS for Chandigarh was Rs. 16 lakhs in 2013-14. It decreased to Rs. 13 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a decrease of Rs. -3 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was -18.75% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15. The amount of funds released under NPCDCS for Dadra and Nagar Haveli was Rs. 5 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 17 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 12 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 240% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15.
The amount of funds released under NPCDCS for Daman and Diu was Rs. 4 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 13 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 9 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 225% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15. The amount of funds released under NPCDCS for Lakshadweep was Rs. 1 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 13 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 12 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 1200% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15.
Thus, the amount of funds released under NPCDCS for all the five UTs without legislature was Rs. 31 lakhs in 2013-14. It increased to Rs. 81 lakhs in 2014-15, recording a growth of Rs. 50 lakhs as compared to 2013-14. In percentage terms, the growth was 161.29% during the period from 2013-14 to 2014-15.
