The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in India was 234.2 per lakh of population in 2015. The top 10 states in terms of the rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) were: Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Telangana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh during 2015.
The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Delhi was 916.8 per lakh in 2015. It was 682.6 higher than the rate of cognizable crimes in India as a whole. In percentage terms, rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) was higher by 291.46% as compared to All India rate in 2015. The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Kerala was 723.2 per lakh in 2015. It was 489 higher than the rate of cognizable crimes in India as a whole. In percentage terms, rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) was higher by 208.8% as compared to All India rate in 2015.
The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Madhya Pradesh was 348.3 per lakh in 2015. It was 114.1 higher than the rate of cognizable crimes in India as a whole. In percentage terms, rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) was higher by 48.72% as compared to All India rate in 2015. The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Assam was 321.8 per lakh in 2015. It was 87.6 higher than the rate of cognizable crimes in India as a whole. In percentage terms, rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) was higher by 37.4% as compared to All India rate in 2015. The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Haryana was 310.4 per lakh in 2015. It was 76.2 higher than the rate of cognizable crimes in India as a whole. In percentage terms, rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) was higher by 32.54% as compared to All India rate in 2015.
The 5 States/UTs having lowest rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) were: Nagaland, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Uttarakhand during 2015. The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Nagaland was 55.1 per lakh in 2015 (-179.1 lower than the All India rate). The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Lakshadweep was 62.5 per lakh in 2015 (-171.7 lower than the All India rate). The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Dadra and Nagar Haveli was 64.4 per lakh in 2015 (-169.8 lower than the All India rate). The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Daman and Diu was 94.1 per lakh in 2015 (-140.1 lower than the All India rate). The rate of cognizable crimes (IPC) in Uttarakhand was 97.2 per lakh in 2015 (-137 lower than the All India rate).
