Projection of Crude Oil Production in the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-17)

November 12, 2014

Total Crude Oil Production is projected to be at 216.34 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) during the entire period of the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-2017). The year wise projections for crude oil production are: 42.31 MMTPA in 2012-13; 45.57 MMTPA in 2013-14; 44.76 MMTPA in 2014-15; 42.55 MMTPA in 2015-16 and 41.16 MMTPA in 2016-17.

ONGC accounts for the major chunk of the crude oil production projected at 133.06 MMTPA i.e. (61.51%) of the total crude oil production projected in India at 216.34 MMTPA during the entire five year period of the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-2017). OIL has total projected crude oil production at 20.34 MMTPA i.e. (9.4%) of the total projected crude oil production. Private/Joint Ventures have crude oil production at 62.94 MMTPA i.e. (29.09%) of the total projected crude oil production during the entire five year period of the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-2017).

Crude Oil Production is projected to increase from 42.31 Million Metric Tonne Per Annum (MMTPA) in 2012-13 to 45.57 MMTPA in 2013-14 showing an increase of 3.26 MMTPA (7.71%) during the period. Thereafter, crude oil production is projected to decline at a gradual pace. This decline is due to the falling projected crude oil production of ONGC and Private/Joint Ventures. Only OIL is showing steady growth in crude oil production during the period of the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-2017).

Thus, the highest growth rate of 7.71% in crude oil production is projected in the year 2013-14 during Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-2017).
