India has witnessed a steady increasing trend in meat production during 1998-99 to 2006-07. In 1998-99, meat production was 1.9 million tonnes across the country, which increased to 5.5 million tonnes in 2011-12.
The total meat production was reported as 4.0 million tonnes in the year 2007-08 and the production of meat show an increasing trend during the period 2007-08 to 2011-12.
