Product-wise Import of Alkali Chemicals from 2010-11 to 2017-18

Three products namely Soda Ash, Caustic Soda and Liquid Chlorine were imported under Alkali Chemicals during 2010-11 to 2017-18. Compound annual growth rate of 4.66%, 11.77% and -30.03% has been seen in import of Soda Ash, Caustic Soda and Liquid Chlorine respectively during 2010-11 to 2017-18. Import of Soda Ash was 489956 metric tonne during 2010-11. It has decreased by -9.1% to 445363 metric tonne during 2011-12 over 2010-11. Its value was Rs. 49573 lakh during 2010-11 and Rs. 52829 lakh during 2011-12. We have observed annual growth of 27.41% in import of Soda Ash from 569420 metric tonne during 2013-14 to 725517 metric tonne during 2014-15. Import of Soda Ash was 772622 metric tonne during 2017-18, up by 11.12% versus 695307 metric tonne during 2016-17. In value term it was Rs. 102490 lakh and Rs. 111757 lakh during 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. Maximum annual growth of 55.57% has been found in import of Soda Ash in 2012-13 during the period under consideration.

Import of Caustic Soda was 138481 metric tonne during 2010-11. It has increased by 53.55% to 212642 metric tonne during 2011-12 over 2010-11. In value term it was Rs. 20764 lakh and Rs. 42811 lakh during 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively. Annual growth of 33.92% has been seen in import of Caustic Soda from 304653 metric tonne during 2013-14 to 407981 metric tonne during 2014-15. Import of Caustic Soda was 421298 metric tonne during 2017-18, down by -106 basis points against 425795 metric tonne during 2016-17. In value term it was Rs. 112391 lakh during 2016-17 and Rs. 153382 lakh during 2017-18. Maximum annual growth of 53.55% has been observed in import of Caustic Soda in 2011-12 during the period under consideration.

Import of Liquid Chlorine was 2062 metric tonne during 2010-11. It has decreased by -81.57% to 380 metric tonne during 2011-12 over 2010-11. Its value was Rs. 228 lakh during 2010-11 and Rs. 149 lakh during 2011-12. We have observed annual growth of 653.49% in import of Liquid Chlorine from 86 metric tonne during 2013-14 to 648 metric tonne during 2014-15. Import of Liquid Chlorine was 58 metric tonne during 2017-18, up by 65.71% versus 35 metric tonne during 2016-17. In value term it was Rs. 170 lakh and Rs. 208 lakh during 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. Maximum annual growth of 653.49% has been seen in import of Liquid Chlorine in 2014-15 during the period under consideration.
