Place of Occurrence-wise Property Stolen Cases Reported and its Value under Theft during 2016

In India there were 494404 property stolen cases reported under theft with property value of Rs. 5996.4 crores during 2016. In terms of Place of Occurrence; Other Places had the maximum number of property stolen cases reported under theft i.e., 146067 (29.54%) during 2016, followed by Residential Premises, Highways/Road, Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, River and Sea, Bank and ATM. The value of stolen property under theft at Other Places was Rs. 4334 crores during 2016.

The number of property stolen cases reported under theft was 137053 (27.72%) at Residential Premises during 2016 with Rs. 693.6 crores as stolen property value. The number of property stolen cases reported under theft was 123605 (25%) at Highways/Road during 2016 with Rs. 506.9 crores as stolen property value.

During 2016, Property stolen cases reported under theft at Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, River and Sea, Bank and ATM was 42832, 38528, 3538, 1037, 886 and 858 respectively. The value of stolen property at Commercial Establishments, Running Trains, Religious Places, River and Sea, Bank and ATM was Rs. 333.5 crores, Rs. 91.7 crores, Rs. 10.9 crores, Rs. 14 crores, Rs. 6.3 crores, Rs. 5.5 crores respectively during 2016.

Note: Value of Property are in Rs. Crores; Data Inludes Cases of Theft, Criminal Tresspass, Robbery & Dacoity only. However, Other Cases like Chain Snatching (11785 Cases), Snatching (9539 Cases) & Other Properties (7964 Cases) are excluded (covered in Other IPC Crimes); Detailed State-wise information available on NCRB Website.
