Persons killed in railway related accidents in India during 2002-2012

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in persons killed in railway related accidents during 2002-2012. In 2002-03, 1837 persons killed in railway related accidents across the country, which increased to 3997 in 2012-13. During 2002-12, highest persons killed (4852) in 2008-09 and lowest (1837) in 2002-03.

Passengers killed in railway related accidents declined by 30.7% from 251 in 2002-03 to 174 in 2011-12. Railway servants killed in railway related accidents declined by 60.1% from 143 in 2002-03 to 57 in 2011-12. Other persons killed in railway related accidents increased by 161% from 1443 in 2002-03 to 3766 in 2011-12.
