Persons Injured due to Potholes during 2016 & 2017

The total number of persons injured classified under the category of potholes during 2017 was 8790, up by 39.3% versus 6310 during 2016; whereas it had declined by -37.31% during 2016 from 10065 during 2015. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to persons injured classified under the category of potholes during 2017 were Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The number of persons injured due to potholes in Maharashtra was 2213 during 2017, which accounted 25.18% of the total persons injured due to potholes in India. It has increased by 180.13% during 2017 against 790 during 2016. There were 1419 persons injured due to potholes in Uttar Pradesh during 2017. It accounted 16.14% of the total persons injured due to potholes in India during the same period. We have seen annual growth of 30.66% in persons injured due to potholes in Uttar Pradesh during 2017 from 1086 during 2016. The number of persons injured due to potholes in Madhya Pradesh was 1018 during 2017, which accounted 11.58% of the total persons injured due to potholes in India. It has increased by 35.91% during 2017 versus 749 during 2016.

During 2017, there were 779 and 667 persons injured due to potholes in Kerala and Tamil Nadu respectively. Kerala accounted for 8.86% and Tamil Nadu accounted for 7.59% of the total persons injured due to potholes in India during 2017. Annual growth of 30.49% and -6.97% has been observed in Kerala and Tamil Nadu respectively in persons injured due to potholes during 2017 against 2016.

These aforementioned top 5 states accounted for 69.35% of the total persons injured due to potholes in India as a whole during 2017.
