Passengers handled at all Indian Airports from 1995-96 to 2012-13

Civil Aviation Industry is showing high growth in India. The data shows the number of passenger during the period from 1995-96 to 2012-13.

The number of international passengers in all the airports of India was 11449756 in 1995-96. The number of international passengers increased to 43033830 in 2012-13, showing an absolute growth of 31584074. Thus, the overall percentage growth in the number of international passengers was 275.85% during the period 1995-96 to 2012-13. The average annual percentage growth was 16.23% during this period. The maximum annual growth of 16.72% was recorded in the year 2004-05, while the lowest growth rate of-2.74, in fact negative growth, was recorded in the year 2001-02. The international passengers accounted for 30.93% in 1995-96 and 27% in 2012-13 of the total air travellers in India.

The number of domestic passengers in all the airports of India was 25563998 in 1995-96. The number of domestic passengers increased to 116367526 in 2012-13, showing an absolute growth of 90803528. Thus, the overall percentage growth in the number of domestic passengers was 355.2% during the period 1995-96 to 2012-13. The average annual percentage growth was 20.89% during this period. The maximum annual growth of 38.55% was recorded in the year 2006-07, while the lowest growth rate of -11.22, in fact negative growth, was recorded in the year 2008-09. This indicates a change in the composition of the air travellers with a higher number of persons in India travelling by air for the domestic travel as compared to international travel. The domestic passengers accounted for 69.07% in 1995-96 and 73% in 2012-13 of the total air travellers in India.This augers well for the growth and development of the domestic aviation industry.

Note: Passengers: A passenger is a person occupying separate seat on a one-way trip. An infant-in arm is not considered a passenger for statistical purposes. Passengers in number (NOS).
