Number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) in India from 2004 to 2016

The telecom services have been recognized the world-over as an important tool for socio economic development for a nation and hence telecom infrastructure is treated as a crucial factor to realize the socio-economic objectives in India. Accordingly, the Department of Telecom has been formulating developmental policies for the accelerated growth of the telecommunication services.

India has witnessed an increasing trend in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used during 2004 to 2016. We have seen a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 32.41% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used from 35.61 million to 1034.11 million during the above said period. Number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India was 1034.11 million during 2016. It increased by 64.58 million as compared to the previous year 2015. In percentage terms, the increase was 6.66% during the year 2016 over 2015. We have seen a growth of 7.19% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India from 904.52 million during 2014 to 969.53 million during 2015.

We have seen a growth of 38.89% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India from 584.32 million during 2010 to 811.59 million during 2011. We have seen a growth of 58.14% in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India from 165.09 million during 2007 to 261.08 million during 2008.

Number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India was 35.61 million during 2004. Number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in India was 56.95 million during 2005. It increased by 21.34 million as compared to the previous year 2004. In percentage terms, the increase was 59.93% during the year 2005 over 2004.

The maximum annual growth of 227.27 million was recorded in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used in the year 2011 during the period under consideration. In percentage terms, the maximum annual growth in number of Wireless Phones (GSM & CDMA) used of 78.86% was recorded in the year 2006 during the period under consideration.
