The total number of Group C staff in Railways (All Government Railways, Railway Board and Misc. offices) in India in 2000-01 was 900318. The number of staff belonging to W/Shop and Artisan Staff of Group C in total number of Group C staff in Railways in India was 330129 (36.7%); the number of staff belonging to Running Staff of Group C was 84671 (9.4%) and the number of staff belonging to Other Staff of Group C was 485518 (53.9%).

The total number of Group C staff in Railways (All Government Railways, Railway Board and Misc. offices) in India in 2010-11 was 1079217. The number of staff belonging to W/Shop and Artisan Staff of Group C in total number of Group C staff in Railways in India was 329253 (30.5%); the number of staff belonging to Running Staff of Group C was 94850 (8.8%) and the number of staff belonging to Other Staff of Group C was 655114 (60.7%).

The total number of Group C staff in Railways (All Government Railways, Railway Board and Misc. offices) in India in 2013-14 was 1187912. The number of staff belonging to W/Shop and Artisan Staff of Group C in total number of Group C staff in Railways in India was 341894 (28.8%); the number of staff belonging to Running Staff of Group C was 107785 (9.1%) and the number of staff belonging to Other Staff of Group C was 738233 (62.1%).

The total number of Group C staff in Railways (All Government Railways, Railway Board and Misc. offices) in India increased by 287594 (31.9%) in 2013-14 as compared to the year 200-01. The increase in number of staff belonging to W/Shop and Artisan Staff of Group C in India was 11765 (3.6%); the increase in number of staff belonging to Running Staff of Group C was 23114 (27.3%) and the increase in number of staff belonging to Other Staff of Group C was 252715 (52.1%).
