Number of Male Teachers in Various Types of Universities in India in 2012-13

Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2011 to prepare a sound database on Higher Education in the country. The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting the higher education. It is getting updated from the annual data submitted by the institutions.

The number of male teachers in various types of universities and their colleges in India in 2012-13 was 590349. The number of male teachers in Central University category in 2012-13 was 22201. The percentage of male teachers was 56.86% among the total teachers including females. The percentage of male teachers working in Central University category was 3.76% of the total male teachers working in all types of Universities in India as a whole. The number of male teachers in State Public University category in 2012-2013 was 511770. The percentage of male teachers was 60.3% among the total teachers. The percentage of male teachers working in State Public University category was 86.69% of the total male teachers working in all types of Universities in India as a whole.

The number of male teachers in State Private University category in 2012-13 was 14158. The percentage of male teachers was 63.91% among the total teachers. The percentage of male teachers working in State Private University category was 2.4% of the total male teachers working in all types of Universities in India.

The number of male teachers in Deemed University-Government category in 2012-13 was 3972, forming 0.67% of the total male teachers working in all types of Universities in India. The number of male teachers in Deemed University-Government Aided category in 2012-13 was 1209, forming 0.2% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in Deemed University-Private category in 2012-13 was 25969, forming 4.4% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in Institute of National Importance category in 2012-13 was 9667, forming 1.64% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in Institute under State Legislature Act category in 2012-13 was 369, forming 0.06% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in Central Open University category in 2012-13 was 330, forming 0.06% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in State Open University category in 2012-13 was 602, forming 0.1% of the total male teachers in Universities. The number of male teachers in Others category in 2012-13 was 102.
